Hi - GenZod here,
I wanted to take a minute to talk about the community.. and our relationship with IOHK, Cardano Foundation, & Emurgo, etc.
I've pretty much been heavily into Cardano since late 2017 / early 2018. I've seen it all, and had the pleasure of talking with many helpful, down-to-earth, and talented community members along the way.
In addition to a great (but sometimes quiet) community, we have an admirable figurehead in Charles that has kept it pretty much 100% transparent from day one. There have obviously been some miscalculations, resets, and a few delays, but look at the magnitude of this project! The papers, the x-factors & unknowns, the development etc. These have been major milestones, but also look at what Charles has given us, personally. He has given us videos damn near every week for years. In between conferences, while traveling, he will answer questions, give updates, tweet, post on reddit, and give random AMAs. As a community, I feel like we take this for granted. Charles and team have given a major portion of their lives, sacrificing for the Cardano ecosystem and it's community. There's a bigger picture for them.. This is a legacy - a global game changer.
Earlier this week, I briefly went to another crypto community on reddit, as it's been a while since I've peeked at other coins & communities. What I found was eye-opening, and it reminded me just how special we are in the Cardano community. There were no CEO videos, or posts from leaders of their crypto. People seemed confused and it looked like the same questions were swirling around their reddit for months, unanswered / no updates. This reminded me of my time at other Crypto communities in the past, where the CEOs and leaders never made videos.. and when they did, they were brief, vague, and had an element of shadiness or half truths behind them. They just felt empty.. A captain-less ship in the fog.
Charles, on the other hand, is one of the most transparent leaders in the crypto space. His intelligence, openness, passion, and desire to fight for what he's built is inspiring. He's not hiding... he's putting everything on the line, and he never gives up. He's proud of his team, through thick-and-thin, and he always comes back to re-motivate, educate and update the community at every opportunity. These are signs of a true leader - someone fighting, with honor for the Gold. He doesn't want a cult following.. he wants the opposite, actually. True decentralization. He doesn't want to make a lot of $... he already has it.. he only wants to make the world a fairer place. At every step of this journey, where he could've taken a short cut, he & team did not. I put out a list of hard questions to the community the other week, and the dude answered them swiftly, directly, and without hesitation. This, as you may know, was unexpected.. but bold & fearless all the same. You think other busy CEOs would video answer a random redditor's questions while at an overseas conference.. Let me help you out - Hell nah!
As a community, what more could we ask for? We have constant team updates, random CEO AMAs, team engagements on The Cardano Effect, as well as Charles killing it at every speech & interview I've ever seen him do, in over 50 countries.. whether that's in front of the world's elite in Davos.... or on some small Crypto Youtube channel with 500 subscribers and 100 views. The dude is consistent. He knows about other projects, what they're working on, the terminology / technology, and their processes. He knows about economics, mathematics, academics, past technologies, as well as other great business leaders' methodologies and philosophies. He's a student of the game, in many facets, and if you listen, you see the difference between him and other "leaders" in the space. And this is just Charles I'm talking about.. imagine all the hidden figures behind the scenes at Cardano.
From 2018 to 2020, just look a the amount of content from Charles & Emurgo alone. Hundreds, if not thousands of hours of video. Every day, the Githubs are poppin', the documentation is jumpin', and the community is growing. I've had direct conversations with Sebastien, Andreas, Denicio, Rick, and some direct answers from Charles.
All this to say, we are the Lucky Ones. When we want answers, we get them. We have people on the Cardano team that over deliver in communication... not under. This is a good problem.. and it seems like things are only getting better. So.. in the words of April from Nigeria... "Buckle Up.. Shelley (& Goguen) are Coming!!!

The Cardano (ADA) network will perform a scheduled upgrade on Feb. 20 to introduce Ouroboros BFT, an improved consensus mechanism. The update is an intermediate step between the current Byron era and Shelley, which will introduce staking on mainnet.
