I would like to use Bisq to trade BTC for Monero but I have a few questions about it. The Bisq FAQ says that the majority of transactions go undisputed, but what are the odds that something bad happens? 5%? .001%? Have any of you guys done it before and was it a smooth process? How long should I expect it to take? Is it dangerous to trade a large amount of money at once? One last question: I know that both traders have to pay a deposit, but how does it work and where does the deposit go to ensure that both traders stay honest? Thanks! [link] [comments] via Monero: the secure, private, untraceable currency https://ift.tt/38cCJn7 I've seen a strange increase and fluctuations in the hash rate lately and we all know it's due to server farms and other machines that got compromised. How can we mitigate this? It brings a lot of bad publicity and hurts the addoption in a lot of ways. It also discourages real hobby miners from decentralizing the network. From an algorithm standpoint I do not really see a solution, but what about something else? Couldn't we perhaps raise awareness? Get in contact with the main Linux distros and try to figure out some in-built protection against mining? Not sure if Microsoft would listen but the Linux community could help out. Could we not promote safety against botnets as a fix for our issue? Monero could be seen as privacy and security oriented. Let the world see us as the good guys for a change. This is just my idea but i am sure we cand figure something out as a community. My fiancee gave my black Monero shirt to a friend to wear while painting and it got ruined. >__< Just trying to see if there's any way I could replace it or if it was a limited edition thing. via Monero: the secure, private, untraceable currency https://ift.tt/2YIvekJ We have fully restored the MyMonero service that has given quite a number of users a scare over the weekend when it showed incorrect balances and missing transactions. First off your Monero is safe and was never moved or stolen. We never receive or store your spend keys. Our apps are open source and I encourage anyone using the wallets to look through the source code to understand what it is the wallet does and how it works with the Monero blockchain. Those that experience the wallet showing a zero balance and no transactions will be able to see their balance and transactions reflecting correctly now. For some, they experienced a never-ending X blocks behind notification, We have resolved this and your wallets are up to date and this will be a problem no more. We do have some reports of people being presented with the import fee screen. We are working to resolve this. If you are affected by this, please contact our support and we can assist you. Any support emails and intercom requests will be resolved over the next 24 hours as we catch up. [link] [comments] via Monero: the secure, private, untraceable currency https://ift.tt/31yeZZg Given the success of the previous MAAMs (see here), let's keep this rolling. The principle is simple: ask anything you'd like to know about Monero, especially the dumb questions that you've been keeping for you every other days, may the community clarify it all! Finally, credits to binaryFate for starting the concept! Not many settings to go wrong / change on the GUI. I've got NortonLifelock on the PC but I disabled from the taskbar menu. However it blocking Coinminer Activity 3as an IPS alert on port 18080. Could that be related? I can't figure out how to eliminate that. Can anyone help me through this ? NOT the positive aspects of it. Discussion can relate to the technology itself or economics. Talk about community and price is not wanted, but some discussion about it maybe allowed if it relates well. Be as respectful and nice as possible. This discussion has potential to be more emotionally charged as it may bring up issues that are extremely upsetting: many people are not only financially but emotionally invested in the ideas and tools around Monero. It's better to keep it calm then to stir the pot, so don't talk down to people, insult them for spelling/grammar, personal insults, etc. This should only be calm rational discussion about the technical and economic aspects of Monero.
