Our next Zeal Community Call will take place Tuesday, June 30th at 11 am MST/ 1 pm EST. We have a jam-packed agenda with exciting updates and a pretty special guest. I promise you do not want to miss this one! Register here for the monthly calls.
Here is the tentative agenda for the call
ECC is participating in a virtual two-week hackathon, Protect Privacy. For June’s Zeal call, we’re inviting all developers who are working on Zcash to present their projects. When the Hackathon concludes July 6th, I’ll post all of the submissions to the forum so that the community can vote on their favorite project for the Community Choice Award.
Our special guest is Sheila Warren is Head of Blockchain, Digital Assets, and Data Policy at the World Economic Forum. Recently the WEF announced the Presidio Principles to help organizations think through how to protect users in the design of decentralized applications. ECC was among the first signatories. Sheila will walk us through the principles and explain how these guidelines can help in the future development of decentralized technologies.
Zeal Community calls are scheduled once a month and cover a range of topics such as guest speakers from other privacy organizations and occasional technical AMAs. Register here for the monthly calls.

I want to start stacking Zcash because I think a future cash substitute must have true anonymity. The only thing that bothers me is Bolt. I saw this video about off-chain networks and it seems to make a lot of sense: https://youtu.be/UYHFrf5ci_g Can someone help me understand why Bolt is necessary instead of using on-chain scaling like Bitcoin Cash or Bitcoin SV?

ZecWallet Lite; A Couple Questions
Several weeks ago I started playing around with testnet ZEC. To that end, I have this far tried to use a full node in conjunction with both the Zcash CLI and ZecWallet Full Node.
However, from what I gather neither of them support mnemonic seed phrases, which I would very much prefer in order to make my backup situation much easier. From what I understand, this feature has yet to be merged into the full node version of ZecWallet, so I must use ZecWallet Lite. So far so good.
I still have a couple unresolved issues though:
It appears to me that both t-addresses and z-addresses are generated deterministically from the seed; can anyone confirm this for me?
Is it possible to use ZecWallet Lite with testnet ZEC? If so, would I set this by editing the zcash.conf file?
What sort of data about my wallet is being shared with the remote node when I use this wallet?
Where can I find the PGP keys to verify my download of this application? Can anyone confirm the key fingerprint for me here, out of band?
I would like to use Qubes to achieve separation of public and private keys; for those not familiar with Qubes the process is conceptually similar to air-gapped cold storage. What do I need to know in order to split master public keys from my seed? Is there anything special I need to know about signing transactions in an offline environment with ZecWallet Lite?
Thanks for the help, I hope to have my ZEC off Coinbase, into the shielded pool, very soon.

ECC is partnering with Gitcoin and other organizations for the Protect Privacy hackathon. This is a great opportunity for developer teams who want to learn about/ build on Zcash and potentially win cash prizes.

I’m aware that Zcash does not have smart contracts and I’m also aware of platforms that do have smart contracts that have ZK features enabled so does this mean that Zcash’s plan is anywhere a platform has ZK features enabled that ZEC can be interoperable within that platform and be the (or a) currency that binds a written smart contract on whichever platform had the ZK features enabled that [said] smart contract was written on?
Is this the approach Zcash is taking or will the theoretical Bolt Network (which is never talked about) be a side chains network with smart contracting capabilities?
This question is seemingly not talked about publicly and it is in my view the most important information to fully understand Zcash’s true roadmap. The lack of this information or clarification around it feels secretive and secretive feels centralized and I don’t like that feeling lol. I have faith in Zcash; just trying to fill in some pieces for my personal sanity.
Should I be asking questions like this here or Discord?
